1920's Fancy Dress - 5 Little Touches to Help Make Those Gangster Outfits Look Even More Authentic

Following blockbuster films such as The Untouchables, The Godfather, Goodfellas, Once Upon A Time In America and, more recently, Public Enemies, gangster outfits have become one of the most popular types of 1920's fancy dress at Halloween and at themed parties, throughout the country.

Always extremely popular with the men, they are now often worn by women, where the Gangster Moll's outfit is second only to flapper costumes when it comes to female 1920's fancy dress.

So if you have decided to go to the upcoming costume party in 1920's fancy dress and more specifically you have decided to buy one of those great gangster outfits that you have found online, what are those little extras that you will need to consider purchasing to make your outfit just that extra bit authentic looking?

Below are five great accessories that will transform your gangster outfit into something that Al Capone himself would have been proud of.

1920s spats

White in colour and made from a soft felt material, 1920's spats really do help to create a classic twenties shoe look. Make sure that you get some with a Velcro fastening for easy use and with an elastic stirrup between the heal and the sole so that they stay in place properly. The better 1920's spats that you can find usually includes silver coloured buttons on the side for that extra little touch.

The black spiv moustache

The weaselly looking black spiv mustache makes a superb gangster's mustache and is quite easy to apply with face paints. However, if you really want to look the part you could always buy a self adhesive one, where no spirit gum is needed, which is more likely to last the night than a painted one would.

Felt trilby hat

A black felt trilby makes a perfect gangster hat and will add a lot to the costume, without costing a great deal. Meanwhile, the ladies might want to consider buying a pin striped fedora hat to compliment their gangster's moll costume.

Moulded PVC tommy gun

No gangster outfit would be complete without a moulded PVC tommy gun at your side. You will be surprised just how cheaply you can buy these for and they will certainly add a little something to your costume.

Male gangster shoes

Although a pair of gangster shoes are likely to be more expensive than the items mentioned above, these black and white patent shoes are the ultimate 1920's fancy dress accessory that are guaranteed to complete any gangster's costume.

So where can you purchase these great value 1920's fancy dress accessories?

Please remember it is always important to ensure your fancy dress supplier has the outfit and accessories you want in stock, so that they are delivered in time for the party!

At 1920's Fancy Dress, if it says your order is in stock then you can rest assured that it is. Go there now and choose from a great range of twenties costumes, including authentic looking gangster outfits and accessories.

Easter Fancy Dress Costumes - A Look at 3 Awesome Easter Outfit Suggestions

Easter fancy dress costumes are usually worn either at Easter Parades, on Easter Egg hunts, or else at specially themed Easter costume parties. So during the Easter period, there are a number of opportunities for you to wear you Easter outfit.

In the UK, Easter is one of two major Christian festivals of the year, the other being Christmas. Easter occurs on a different date each year and can fall on any Sunday between 22nd March and 25th April. Easter marks the end of Lent, which is traditionally a time of fasting, so therefore it is a time for fun, celebration and lots of traditions.

One of the most common traditions at this time of year is the giving of Easter eggs, which are seen as a symbol of spring and new life. In parts of England, there is an old custom where hard boiled eggs are rolled down a hill. However, a more common tradition throughout the country is where children hunt for chocolate Easter eggs, which have been hidden about the home or garden by the Easter bunny, which is why the Easter Bunny outfit is the most popular of all Easter fancy dress costumes.

The next most popular Easter Outfit are Chicken costumes. This is probably because the egg is seen as a symbol for life. Although they do not seem to be alive, we know that they have life within them, especially during springtime when little chicks hatch out.

Below are three outfit suggestion for your Easter fancy dress costumes, so that you can join in the fun, whether at a parade, a costume party on on an Easter egg hunt.

Easter Bunny Costume

These popular unisex outfits are always a great hit with the children, especially as part of an Easter Egg hunt outside in the garden. There are some great value outfits on the market at the moment, including actual mascot costumes at incredible prices.

Chicken Outfit

If Easter Bunny fancy dress costumes are the number one type of Easter outfit, then Chicken outfits are a close second. These zany costumes are great fun to wear to Easter themed costume parties or as part of the Easter parade.

Bunny Girl Costume

If you are looking for a more sensual Easter outfit then there really is only one choice. The bunny girl costume is a great choice of outfit for ladies going to themed parties at this time of the year. However, a bunny girl outfit is probably not really appropriate to wear to the parade.

So where should you go for these Easter outfit suggestions?

Beatles Fancy Dress - 5 Accessories to Help Make Your Sgt Pepper's Costume Look Totally Fab

There are two main types of Beatles fancy dress costumes currently available on the market. The first is the British Invasion tailored suit, with the mop-top hair style, which was made famous at the beginning of the sixties. The second type of outfit is of course the Sgt. Pepper's hippy look, reminiscent of how the Fab Four appeared towards the end of the decade.

While the early sixties outfits are themselves a good example of Beatles fancy dress, here I am more concerned with the latter style of costume and in particular with the different accessories that are available to buy, to turn your Sgt. Pepper's outfit into something that is really authentic looking.

Below are my personal favourite five little extras to help make your Sgt. Pepper's costume look totally fab.

Platform shoes

As with most fancy dress costumes, the footwear is an important area that can really make a difference. Whether you go for a coloured platform shoe, to match your costume, or a pair of classic white patent platform shoes that will go with most sixties outfits, this is something that will certainly bring a lot to your Beatles fancy dress outfit.

Spectacles

There are a range of Beatles-style glasses out there, including round shaped cool shades, with coloured glass and metal rims. These can match your Sgt. Pepper's costume nicely, but I would recommend that you go with the circular Lennon sunglasses, which include a circular dark lens and are a touch more realistic looking.

Groovy black mustache

This was the era when the Beatles had those really groovy looking hippie mustaches and you are able to purchase a Groovy Black Mustache from most specialist 60's fancy dress websites. These compliment the circular Lennon sunglasses superbly well and so are a must for your Sgt. Pepper's outfit.

Inflatable rock guitar

This is more of a fun accessory, which is an optional extra, but one that will still add something to the outfit. When shopping around for an accessory of this kind, make sure that it is reasonably believable and not just a novelty product and also check the size when inflated.

Beatles wig

In my opinion, the most important accessory for Beatles fancy dress outfits is an authentic looking Beatles wig. There are some really good looking wigs available nowadays, but make sure you purchase one that will go with a Sgt. Pepper's costume, as opposed to an earlier Beatles' look.

So where can you get all these accessories for your Beatles outfit?

Themed Fancy Dress

People love fancy dress but often have difficulty deciding what to wear. If you give your party a theme it will really help your guests to choose a costume. There are hundreds of themes to choose from and you could narrow it down even further to a theme within a theme. If you love the 1960’s you could choose a broad swinging 60’s party theme or narrow it down to a film stars or musicals from the 60’s fancy dress party.

Themed Fancy Dress – Consider your guests
Have a look at your guest list. What age are they? What era do they come from? What fancy dress outfits will they feel comfortable wearing? Make sure you choose an appropriate theme; if your guest list includes your entire family then Aunt Agatha may not like wearing a short 60’s mini skirt so make sure there will be enough in the category to suit her!!
Will the costumes fit? Make sure the theme you pick has a wide range of sizes to choose from. Comfort is the first priority if you want to wear your outfit all night. If your outfit is just to make an impact on arrival then anything goes! Can you find the correct accessories to complete your outfit? Many online shops have a great selection of wigs and masks. A Princess Leia outfit wouldn’t be complete without the famous hairdo!

Themed Fancy dress – decorate the room
To add impact to your party decorate your room. You can find an assortment of decorations online or visit your local high street shop.
If you have enough space or are hiring a room then you can even choose an outside company to decorate the room for you. There are plenty to choose from either online or from your local area.

Themed Fancy Dress - Serve great food
Serve food on the same theme. It’s fun and interesting!! Especially if you’re throwing a Victorian party and serve your guests jellied eels or mince pies with real meat!! Just make sure you label everything so your veggie guests aren’t eating anything they wouldn’t like.

Themed fancy dress parties are great fun to plan and attend! So it's worth investing a little time to choose the perfect theme!

50's Fancy Dress - 5 Accessories You May Want to Consider For Your Pink Ladies Fancy Dress Costumes

Pink Ladies fancy dress costumes really are a great example of 50's fancy dress, which just sum up perfectly that particular style of the post-war period. First featured in the hugely popular film Grease, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, they are certainly a fun outfit to wear to any fifties themed party that you may be invited to, or indeed to your local bowling alley on a girl's night out.

Nowadays, you can purchase different Pink Ladies costumes online, which really do look the part. However, you can make your 50's fancy dress outfit look even more authentic by adding a number of great affordable accessories to it.

A fifties style wig

Perhaps the easiest way to add that little extra touch of authenticity to your costume is to go online and buy yourself a fifties wig. You could either go for the long blonde High School Honey type of look or for a more classic looking 1950's Brunette wig, complete with the detachable headband. Either way, going that extra mile by purchasing a wig will help make your outfit that little bit more convincing.

Pink PVC hat

Of course, wearing a wig is not for everyone and a good alternative is to buy a 50s style hat. A pink PVC type hat will not only be in keeping with the period, but will also match your Pink Lady outfit.

1950's sunglasses

One of my personal favorite items to complete these outfits is a pair of 1950's Sunglasses. Those super stylish spectacles, as worn by the likes of Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy, will just look great with your outfit and will really get you in character.

Black and white chequered scarf

Another good little touch to set off your 1950's outfit is a chequered scarf. It is quite likely that you will have a black and white chequered scarf lying around in a drawer somewhere and it is always great if you can recycle accessories so as to keep the overall cost of your costume as low as possible. This way you can spend your budget on those special items that will really set your costume apart.

Bowling bag

Of course, the ultimate accessory for those Pink Ladies outfits has got to be the Official Grease Pink Lady bowling bag. These superb looking pink and black bowling bags are available from most 50's fancy dress specialist websites and will complete your outfit perfectly.

So where can you get all these 50's Fancy Dress Accessories?

Please remember it is always important to ensure your fancy dress supplier has the outfit and accessories you want in stock, so that they are delivered in time for the party!

At 50's Fancy Dress, if it says your order is in stock then you can rest assured that it is. Go there now and choose from the range of authentic looking Pink Ladies costumes and accessories.
